Our Baby's Name

The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” John 10:2-4

We had a list of boy names that we liked but not one that we knew we wanted to name our baby if it is a boy. One day, before we knew we were having a boy, David came home, sat on the sofa and said, “Steph, I know what I want to name the baby if it is a boy…” As you can imagine I was very anxious to hear his response. He went on to say, “His name should be Tucker Scott Crabtree. That is what I want to name him.” I love that Dave was so adamant about Tucker’s name!

My godmother, Melinda, sent me the meaning of Tucker’s name:

Did you know that the name Tucker is part of the ancient legacy of the Anglo-Saxon tribes of Britain? The Tucker family took the name when one of its members worked as a fuller, whose job it was to scour and thicken raw cloth by beating it and trampling it in water having derived from the old English word tucian, which originally meant to torment and later gained the meaning to tuck or to full (garment maker, tailor or stylish). Occasionally, the name Tucker was a nickname surname given to a courageous person.

The name Scott is derived from Scotland and means warrior.

As I thought about the meaning of Tucker’s name, I got excited. I had been praying Psalm 26 over him, praying that Tucker would be so courageous to pray like David did in this Psalm:

2 Test me, O LORD, and try me,
examine my heart and my mind;

3 for your love is ever before me,
and I walk continually in your truth.

I pray that Tucker would desire to be so courageous to desire to be tested by the Lord and want Him to examine his heart and mind. I love how this Psalm goes on to say…

8 I love the house where you live, O LORD,
the place where your glory dwells.

How I pray that Tucker would love, desire, long for the Glory of the Lord. I love this baby’s name and look forward in seeing what the Lord has in store for our sweet son.
