How we save MONEY!

I love it when my friends share ways that I can save money for my family and I thought this blog would be a GREAT place to do this! So here are my top places I go to save money!!!

Grocery Store Savings

My co-worker Beth at ACS got me hooked on southersavers.com. She would come to work and tell me how she would get things for free or next to free. Here is what I just purchased at Publix for $11.75. I save $31.33 on these items.
These are things that we use. You have to be disicpline to buy only what you use. Whenever an item that we use goes on sale I try to stock up and buy as many as I have coupons for. Southern Savers will tell you how to organzie your coupons and also the coupon policies of your store of choice. The way you really save money is buying the product on sale at the store and using as many coupons as you can. My stores of choice are Publix and CVS. I spend about 30min to an hour each week organizing my shopping list for the week. My savings are almost always 50% off or more.

Sewing Savings

A JoAnn's store just opened in Hoover and I LOVE IT! They match competors prices and take competators coupons. Hobby Lobby typcially has a coupon for 40% any one full price item every other week (Here is a link to Hobby Lobby's coupons. You can print however many you like! They are great!!!). I hardly ever buy anything that is either not on sale or have a coupon for. JoAnn's also mails out AWESOME coupons. If you have one close to you sign up for their coupons in the store and their e-mail newsletter (click here to sign up for the newsletter)!

Baby Savings

I have saved so much money is by making Tucker's baby food. My friend Catie shared this great web-site called Wholesome Baby Food! It tells you all that you need to know about homemade baby food!!! I would make a big batch of food, freeze it in ice cube trays and then store them in freezer bags. When it was time for Tucker to eat I would simply remove the food of choice and microwave the food. We already had a food processor so the only thing we purchased was 4 ice cube trays. The cost to make the food was so minimum and Tucked liked everything but peas and green beans. No need to buy cook books on baby food receipes!!! You just bake or boil the food! That is it!

My friend Hilary posted a great post about cloth diapers (click here to read her post). After much thought we are going to try them out. I will let you know how they go!!! I plan on putting my order in tomorrow. I am a little skeptical but after reading her post and I have another friend who loves them. I figured it is worth a shot!

All of these things do take time but I look at this as my "job" since I am a stay at home mom. I love being a good steward of our money and helping our family with these savings. I hope this helps your family save some money!!! Please share how you save money! I would love to know!

  1. Woohoo! I hope you love your cloth diapers! Don't freak out! Let me know if you have any trouble. Also, I have been using the homemade detergent on them, and it works great. I add about 1/2 cup vinegar in the rinse cycle to prevent residue build up and as a fabric softener.

  2. Cloth Diapers?! You MUST let me know how that goes! I am doubtful that I can take that plunge with the munchies but I am going to read about them right now...
